The United States Road Rally Challenge
The USRRC has a history of providing the best road rally competition in the country and this year proved no exception. Twenty-three teams from across the US gathered in Tigard, Oregon in late October for three days of rallying through the picturesque Oregon countryside.
The competition kicked off Friday, Halloween morning with the Ghouls Gone Wild GTA - a question and answer rally with no requirement to be on time.
But that didn't mean it would be a simple contest. Rallymaster Chris Hale lined the course with unexpected tricks and treats. Specially printed M&M candies had route instructions on them that came into play from time to time. It's a good thing they don't melt in your hands!
At the end of day one, four teams were tied for first place with three more just a single point behind.
On Saturday the rally-lawyers took to the hills in Oregon's premier course rally - the Beaver Cleaver. Unlike the GTA, teams had to stay on time and on course making for a seemingly more complex day.
Seven teams within a single point? Not on this day... Oregon Region's own Brandon Harer and Marcus Song took first overall with a solid performance. But the surprise of the day had to be the 'never-ran-a-rally' team of beginners that successfuly navigated through to the finish!
The long weekend concluded on Sunday with the Barlow Trail - a simple touring rally that featured intense competition over sometimes wet and rainy Oregon back roads finishing with dinner and awards at the scenic Multnomah Falls Lodge.
And once again the team of Harer and Song came in with the low score. It was a great weekend for the Oregonians!
